The Scouts of the World Award (SOWA) is an opportunity to explore a chosen issue and undertake a project under one of the themes of peace, environment or sustainability. Here we here from Georgia who is the Scout Leader at Elsea Park at Bourne.
"As a medical doctor and scout leader I am passionate about providing young people with skills that could allow them to help someone in need. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic I was delivering training sessions to Cubs and Scouts which were well received and there was demand for further teaching. I did not want the pandemic to prevent the development of skills in young people.
I am therefore creating a comprehensive and exciting virtual first aid training programme for young people in our community. I hope that it will give young people the confidence to help in emergency situations should they ever need to. It may also inspire older Scouts who are interested in becoming mentors for their younger peers and introduce career opportunities in science and medicine. We should not let the pandemic prevent young people from gaining important skills for life, and I hope this project will go some way in helping with that".
